Living Light
The Light a Home program, popularly known as the Samaritan Lamp Program, is dedicated to providing clean, safe, and sustainable solar lamps to off-grid households. Beyond lighting homes, the program empowers small and medium enterprises, particularly African mothers who rely on kerosene lamps to run their businesses at night, offering them a healthier and more efficient alternative.
From Darkness to Light: The Story Behind Living Light
My name is Eric Omondi, a student of Electrical Engineering at Multimedia University of Kenya. Growing up in the village, I experienced firsthand the hardships of studying under a kerosene lamp—enduring eye strain, harmful fumes, and constant discomfort. After losing my father at a young age, my family faced immense challenges, eventually relocating to Kibera, where survival was a daily battle.
Despite these hardships, I pursued education with determination, supported by God's grace. My experiences ignited a deep desire to help children in villages like mine escape the same struggles I faced. In 2022, using funds meant for my pocket money, I purchased solar lamps and distributed them to families back home. But these lamps were more than just light—they were a symbol of hope and an opportunity to share the love of Christ.
Since then, Living Light has provided solar lamps to 20 families, enabling children to study safely without the dangers of kerosene lamps, while also spreading the gospel. Our mission is clear: to bring physical light through sustainable solar energy and spiritual light through the message of Jesus Christ.
Running this organization as a full-time student comes with challenges—high costs of lamps, expensive travel to remote villages, and limited storage space. Yet, with a dedicated team of student volunteers and unwavering faith, we continue to press on.
Every lamp donated is not just a source of light but a beacon of hope and faith. Your support helps us brighten lives, one lamp at a time, while sharing the everlasting light of Christ with those in need.
